The day I took my oath of citizenship was a rebirth. I had carried that dream with me my entire life. But citizenship can still feel conditional when the place you were born becomes the first thing some people see.
At its center, The Good American is about a refugee who has built his life around one belief: if he wants to belong, he has to be a good American — and to him, that has always meant staying invisible. Circumstances force him to discover the opposite. Being a true American means stepping forward. It means standing up for another human being when doing so could cost you everything.
The action is how we tell the story. The drama is the truth inside it.
